Exams in Butagaya

Nate's class in Butagaya took their exams last week and invited our whole family to come and enjoy a celebratory feast with them after they completed.
They opened their time with a beautiful time of worship. We wondered if we were getting a glimpse of heaven!

While the students took their exam, the kids and I walked about a mile to Pastor Sooka's home. He is one of the students and is also the host for the class (the church building where they meet is where he pastors).
We spent the next 2 hours visiting with his 6 kids, exploring their house, singing with the village kids who crowded in the doorway to stare at us, drinking tea, eating maize, and listening to Jude tell stories ("Once upon a time I met a monkey in the jungle...").

The students came to Pastor Sooka's house for a feast after they finished their exam. The ladies swooped upon Hannah immediately and it seems as if they had her asleep within minutes.
Wish I could do that.

A good day in the village

Exam time!

Nate's students in Naigobya working on their 1st term final exam last week.

After finishing the exam, Nate & the guys hiked a nearby "mountain" together in celebration.

A few weeks ago Nate was in the village and was introduced to a young girl who had recently fallen into the fire and burned her legs. This is, unfortunately, not uncommon here since people cook their food over open fires on the ground outside their homes. We were able to help her get the treatment she needed here in Jinja.

Good bye Kalika!

Kalika left a week ago, after spending the last 6 months in our home. We miss her.
We enjoyed a visit from Tara Callender for about a week this month. I think the story she was telling here was quite entertaining, but Jude just couldn't keep his eyes open. :)

Hannah is 1!

Am I supposed to be impressed?

Hannah spent the rest of her birthday weekend at a lodge in the rainforest with Mom & friends. She loved all the attention!

I am blessed to have such an incredible group of friends here in Jinja!

Visiting Pastor Fred's church

A few weeks ago we were invited to visit the church of one of Nate's students in a village about one hour from Jinja. It was special to see him with his congregation and to worship with them.

After the service we were invited for lunch at the home of friends of Pastor Fred.
Kazungu ("little white person" - what Hannah is called in the village) with an attitude
Jude loved the family's little pet ducks, much to the amusement of the village kids. :)
